Pahang Records Over RM114 Million In Losses From Online Fraud Cases

KUANTAN, Pahang recorded 5,941 online fraud cases, resulting in losses of RM114.6 million, from 2021 to May this year, the State Legislative Assembly was told today. Pahang Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman Sim Chon Siang said THE Kuantan district had the highest number of cases, with 2,470 incidents and RM51.8 million in losses. 'Bentong ranked second with RM17.8 million in losses, followed by Temerloh (RM12.8 million), Raub (RM7.2 million), and Cameron Highlands (RM5.2 million),' he said. He said this in response to a question from Datuk Seri Shafik Fauzan Sharif (BN-Inderapura), who inquired about the number of online fraud cases in the state and the losses incurred between 2021 and this year. According to Sim, According to Sim, various efforts have been made to tackle the issue, including the Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department organising prevention exhibitions for all agencies, both government and private, and collaborating with external agencies to deliver lecture s on cyber fraud. 'From January to May 2024, a total of 12 exhibitions and 86 lectures were held across the state. 'Pahang PDRM (the Royal Malaysia Police) also utilises social media platforms to share information on cyber crime prevention and the latest modus operandi (used by scammers),' he said.
