Manila: Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced on Tuesday its partnership with GE Aerospace for the latter's Genx-1B engines to power the flag carrier's new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners fleet. 'As we continue to invest in our fleet and expand our international network, GE Aerospace remains an important partner of Philippine Airlines,' PAL Holdings Inc. President and Chief Operating Officer Lucio Tan III said in a statement.
According to Philippines News Agency, the agreement was signed during the Farnborough International Airshow in United Kingdom on Monday. The flag carrier said the GEnx-1B engine delivers durable and lower emissions through advanced materials and innovative design, supporting quieter and more sustainable long-haul flight. 'We are proud to support PAL as it grows its widebody fleet with an engine that delivers proven reliability, fuel efficiency and strong operating performance,' GE Aerospace Commercial Engines and Service President and CEO Mohamed Ali was quoted as saying.
On Monday night, PAL announced the acquisition of 15 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner jets, with a plan to get additional five more aircraft, and deliveries are expected between 2031 and 2034. 'This investment manifests our confidence in the future of Philippine Airlines and the continued growth of air travel. The Boeing 787-10 will strengthen our medium and long-haul fleet, allowing us to provide an even better travel experience for our customers while improving operational efficiency and supporting our long-term sustainability goals,' Tan said.
With its advanced composite materials, next-generation aerodynamics, and fuel-efficient engines, the Boeing 787-10 reduces fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared with previous-generation aircraft, while offering improved operational performance, the statement said. The agreement marks PAL's first Boeing aircraft order since 2007 and reinforces the airline's longstanding 80-year partnership with the U.S. manufacturer. PAL said it remains the only Philippine carrier operating Boeing aircraft for commercial flights.
