Palace Expects Remulla to Uphold Transparency as New Ombudsman

Manila: Malaca±ang on Wednesday said incoming Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla is expected to uphold transparency and ensure that government officials found guilty of wrongdoing are held accountable. In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized that Remulla's appointment comes with the responsibility to serve the entire nation, and not any particular group or interest.

According to Philippines News Agency, Castro reiterated that Remulla's role as Ombudsman is to act with transparency and accountability. She quoted Secretary Boying Remulla, who has stated that his appointment must ensure those responsible for any wrongdoing face the necessary consequences. Castro highlighted that Remulla's mandate is to serve all Filipinos, without bias toward any sector or group.

Castro further stated that Malaca±ang expects Remulla to carry out his duties with integrity and fairness. She underscored the importance of conducting fair and thorough investigations into all matters handled by the Ombudsman. Castro stressed that any issues that require investigation must be addressed, and that the Ombudsman has a duty to investigate matters that the public deserves to know about.

Remulla, who is currently serving as Justice Secretary, will replace Ombudsman Samuel Martires, whose term ended last July 27. He is scheduled to take his oath on Thursday. As Ombudsman, Remulla will lead an independent Constitutional body responsible for investigating and prosecuting government officials and employees accused of graft, corruption, and other abuses of power.
