Manila: Malaca±ang on Wednesday emphasized the importance of public officials, particularly lawmakers, dedicating themselves to their duties and responsibilities to further national development. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro highlighted that the collective effort of all sectors is crucial for the country's progress.
According to Philippines News Agency, Castro issued this reminder following the actions of Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte, who revised his original request to travel to 17 countries between December 15 and February 20. Duterte now seeks permission to visit the Netherlands from January 3 to 15 to see his father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained at the International Criminal Court on charges of crimes against humanity related to his controversial drug war.
Castro pointed out that public servants who prioritize leisure trips often fail to fully grasp the issues confronting the country and tend to avoid addressing allegations of corruption against them. "Kapag puro bakasyon at world tour ang gagawin ng isang public servant, wala talaga siyang maiintindihan at wala siyang gagawin kundi iwasan ang isyu ng korapsyon na kinakaharap niya (If a public servant does nothing but go on vacation and world tours, they will truly understand nothing and will do nothing except avoid the corruption issues they are facing)," Castro stated.
