Manila: Malaca±ang has officially denied reports suggesting that Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Teodoro Herbosa has been placed under preventive suspension. The alleged suspension was rumored to be linked to ongoing controversies surrounding the Health Secretary.
According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro addressed the media, stating, "From OP (Office of the President) and OES (Office of the Executive Secretary), wala po as of now na suspension of Sec. Ted (as of now, there is no suspension of Sec. Ted)." This statement was issued to counter claims that Herbosa was facing a suspension.
Herbosa is reportedly involved in several allegations, including a case purportedly filed by DOH employees in July. The complaint, lodged with the Office of the Ombudsman, revolves around the alleged unauthorized release of PHP44.6 million worth of psychiatric drugs to the Rotary Club of Quezon City, which lacks authorization to distribute medication.
Furthermore, Herbosa is reportedly implicated in an anonymous complaint concerning the alleged transfer of PHP1.29 billion in cash advances to UNICEF from February to July 2024. This includes a procurement request for PHP524 million worth of vaccines from the same agency.
DOH spokesperson Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo confirmed that Herbosa, along with other DOH officials, was present at the House of Representatives on Wednesday. They were briefing legislators on the administration's priorities for public health, indicating Herbosa's continued active role in government duties.
