According to Philippines News Agency, in Dagupan City, December 26 has already been declared as "Speaker Jose de Venecia Day" through Ordinance No. 2370-2026. The ordinance was authored by councilors Luis Samson and Michael Fernandez. Currently, it is a special working day of commemoration, subject to change depending on national government decisions regarding its status as a non-working holiday.

Jose de Venecia Jr., born in Dagupan City on December 26, 1936, served seven terms in the House of Representatives. He was Speaker for five of those terms, marking him as the longest-serving House leader in post-war Congress. Known as 'JDV' or 'Speaker Joe,' he was instrumental in forming the Rainbow Coalition, which united various political parties. His legislative achievements include authorship of significant laws like the Dollar Remittance Program and the New Central Bank Act. The De Venecia family announced his passing on February 10 at the age of 89.
