Pangasinan: All 48 local government units (LGUs) in Pangasinan suspended classes on Monday due to the effects of Tropical Depression Luis and the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat). In a statement, the Pangasinan provincial government said the LGUs implemented localized class suspensions under Executive Order No. 66, series of 2012, which authorizes local chief executives to suspend classes based on the actual weather and safety conditions in their respective jurisdictions.
According to Philippines News Agency, the province's 44 municipalities and four cities suspended in-person classes at all levels in both public and private schools. Manaoag town, however, limited the suspension to preschool through senior high school. Meanwhile, the municipal government of Lingayen also suspended work in government offices on Monday, except those providing basic, health, frontline, and emergency services.
The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) of the Ilocos Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) likewise raised a 'blue alert' status effective Monday due to the combined effects of Luis and the habagat. "Blue alert status is raised for heightened monitoring, coordination and reporting. Member-agencies' assets will also be on standby for possible augmentation and mobilization," the Office of the Civil Defense in the Ilocos Region said.
Based on Weather Advisory No. 6 issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) early Monday morning, Pangasinan, along with La Union, Zambales, and Bataan, will experience heavy rainfall ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters.
