Pangasinan: A total of 1,400 family-beneficiaries from Calasiao, Pangasinan, have begun receiving a 10-kilogram (kg) rice subsidy from the national government through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF). The beneficiaries are employees who are minimum-wage earners.

According to Philippines News Agency, the rice distribution commenced on Thursday, marking the start of a program designed to deliver a total of 60 kilograms of rice per family across six tranches. Each family will receive 10 kg of rice every two months, six times a year, through the LGSF. This initiative aims to bolster food security for vulnerable sectors.

Mayor Patrick Caramat expressed his gratitude for the program, highlighting its importance in supporting families in need. "This is not just once. This is in six tranches until we complete the 60-kilo-per-family allocation," he said during an interview. He further emphasized the significance of such initiatives for the country's citizens.

The LGSF, along with the Socio-Civic Projects Fund (SCPF), plays a crucial role in reinforcing support for local government units (LGUs) and communities. The LGSF provides financial aid to LGUs to support priority development programs and projects, while the SCPF contributes to community initiatives, including educational support.
