Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Commodore Andro Val Abayon as the new acting head of the Presidential Security Command (PSC). Abayon's appointment was announced by Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Acting Secretary Dave Gomez.

According to Philippines News Agency, before this appointment, Abayon served as the commander of the Naval Special Operations Command of the Philippine Navy. Abayon succeeds Maj. Gen. Peter Burgonio, who has been reassigned as the acting division commander of the 8th Infantry Division (8ID).

Burgonio, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1993, led the PSC for over eight months. He previously served as the commander of the Army Intelligence Regiment. The PSC, formerly known as the Presidential Security Group, is responsible for the security of the President, the First Family, and visiting heads of state.

Meanwhile, the 8ID, which is headquartered in Eastern Visayas, plays a key role in internal security operations.
