PBBM Appoints Lito Magno as NBI Officer-in-Charge Following Santiago’s Resignation

Kuala lumpur: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has accepted the resignation of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago and appointed Assistant Director Lito Magno as the agency’s officer-in-charge (OIC).

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed the development to reporters during a media briefing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Santiago submitted his resignation letter to the Palace in August, citing the presence of individuals with vested interests working against him. He expressed concerns that these detractors were attempting to tarnish his reputation.

Marcos had appointed Santiago as the NBI chief in June 2024. The NBI, which operates under the Department of Justice, is vital in conducting criminal investigations, anti-corruption initiatives, and significant law enforcement operations throughout the nation.
