Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has officially appointed fiscal expert Rolando Toledo as the Acting Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). Toledo took his oath at the Malaca±an Palace, marking a significant new chapter in his long-standing career in public service.

According to Philippines News Agency, Toledo expressed gratitude to President Marcos for entrusting him with this critical role. In a statement released on Wednesday, Toledo emphasized his commitment to maintaining discipline, integrity, and urgency in the management of public funds. He pledged to serve the Filipino people with honesty and dedication, focusing on delivering tangible results.

Toledo underscored his commitment to responsible and transparent governance, ensuring that every peso of the national budget is effectively utilized. He highlighted the importance of translating the budget into real outcomes, such as job creation, classroom construction, medicine delivery, and community strengthening. Toledo stressed the need for swift and equitable distribution of public resources, particularly during uncertain times, to ensure they reach those in greatest need.

He also acknowledged the dedication of the DBM workforce, attributing the agency's strength to its professional personnel. Toledo's career at the DBM began in 1987 as an accounts analyst, and over nearly four decades, he has climbed the ranks, contributing significantly to the agency's mission.

In his previous role, Toledo led the Secretariat of the Philippine Open Government Partnership, where he played a pivotal role in promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. His educational background includes a degree from the University of the East, advanced studies in Development Economics at the UP School of Economics, and a Master in National Security Administration degree from the National Defense College of the Philippines, which he will complete in 2024.
