Pasay City: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has called for a reassessment of the Republic Act (RA) 10912, known as the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Act of 2016, which requires professionals to renew their licenses. This announcement was made during the 123rd Labor Day celebration at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. Marcos acknowledged the difficulties licensed professionals face in renewing their professional identification cards.
According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos expressed his awareness of the challenges related to the renewal process, including the financial and logistical burdens of obtaining necessary training. He emphasized the need to revisit the CPD Act to ensure it serves not just as a mechanism for accruing training hours but as a tool that provides fair opportunities for professional growth in chosen fields.
The President urged the Professional Regulation Commission and the Continuing Professional Development Council to review the current guidelines under RA 10912. This act requires the renewal of the Professional Identification Card and allows overseas licensed professionals to participate in training or seminars by foreign chapters or affiliates of accredited CPD Providers. It also permits attendance at sessions by non-accredited CPD providers, with the possibility of earning credit units through self-directed or lifelong learning.
President Marcos highlighted the importance of continuous knowledge expansion for professionals to meet industry needs both in the Philippines and globally. He questioned the added difficulty imposed on professionals who are already facing challenges in making a living.
