PBBM Calls for Unity, Civic Action to Uphold Ninoy’s Legacy

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday called on Filipinos to draw inspiration from the late senator Benigno 'Ninoy' Aquino Jr.'s courage and convictions by strengthening national unity and taking an active role in the country's democratic journey.

According to Philippines News Agency, in his Ninoy Aquino Day message, Marcos said the occasion serves as an opportunity to remember the past and face present challenges with resolve to protect the country's independence and strengthen institutions. He emphasized that acknowledging the past is crucial to safeguarding freedom and deepening national unity.

Marcos pointed out that although the challenges facing Philippine democracy have evolved, the responsibility of every Filipino to support and enhance it remains. He highlighted issues such as disinformation and civic indifference as indicators of the need for increased public participation in national matters.

"Disinformation, division, distrust, and civic indifference underscore the importance of active engagement in our nation's affairs," Marcos stated. He added that Ninoy's legacy inspires Filipinos to confront these challenges with vigilance and faith in the people, working collectively towards meaningful progress.

The president emphasized that the observance of Ninoy Aquino Day reinforces the idea that freedom entails a shared duty to respect others' dignity and rights while contributing to national betterment. He urged collective action in building a stronger and more united nation, stressing the ongoing relevance of historical lessons in addressing current issues.

Marcos concluded by assuring that the government is committed to ensuring that the country's democratic values are accompanied by opportunities to improve Filipinos' lives.
