Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday announced the completion of 42 additional buildings under a housing project in Davao City by the end of 2027, which will provide over 7,000 housing units once fully developed. Marcos made the commitment during his visit to the People's Ville in the Calinan District of Davao City.

According to Philippines News Agency, on the sidelines of his visit, Marcos highlighted the ongoing developments in the resettlement area, which include the construction of the 42 new buildings. He mentioned that the buildings are larger, and the project is not yet complete, but once finished, it will deliver more than 7,000 housing units. Marcos expressed optimism that the entire project could reach completion as early as next year.

Marcos also discussed plans to possibly construct a school within the community, noting that many families with children reside in the areas visited. He emphasized that access to basic needs, such as markets and employment opportunities, is being considered in the development of housing projects. This approach reflects a shift in his administration's focus from merely constructing housing units to developing communities with essential facilities and services for residents.

The People's Ville project is part of the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Program (4PH), a flagship housing initiative aimed at providing affordable housing to Filipino families. In addition, Marcos mentioned that the Department of Public Works and Highways would assess flood-prone areas and revisit the 2023 master plan for flood mitigation in Davao City. This plan involves collaboration between the Philippine government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency to establish a long-term flood control management strategy for the city.

Marcos acknowledged that some projects in the master plan were not implemented, leading the government to reassess and complete the necessary works to prevent future flooding incidents. When asked about the immediate provision of funding for these projects, Marcos confirmed affirmatively.
