Osaka: The Philippine government is working with host countries to protect the rights of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), especially the assurance of 'safe and humane' working conditions, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said on Saturday. Speaking before the Filipino community in Osaka, Japan, Marcos emphasized his administration's commitment to ensuring 'smooth' employment and deployment processes for OFWs.
According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos highlighted the government's efforts to engage with various countries employing Filipino workers to establish bilateral labor agreements. These agreements aim to secure safe and humane working environments and provide opportunities for Filipinos to thrive abroad.
Marcos also mentioned that better opportunities await OFWs who wish to return home and stay for good. He assured that the government would continue implementing programs, projects, and services dedicated to protecting and promoting the welfare of OFWs. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by OFWs and emphasized the government's commitment to improving their lives.
Furthermore, Marcos recognized the significant role of the Filipino-Japanese youth in sustaining the dynamic and enduring ties between the Philippines and Japan. He expressed confidence in the continued development of a mutually stable, secure, and prosperous relationship between the two countries. Marcos encouraged the youth to support the community in Japan and embrace their Filipino identity.
Marcos is in Osaka for a working visit following the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru to attend the World Expo 2025 and visit the Philippine Pavilion. In addition to addressing the Filipino community, he held meetings with Japanese tourism and business leaders.
