Cebu: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday expressed satisfaction with the joint efforts of the government and the private sector in delivering immediate relief to earthquake victims in Cebu province. Marcos visited the 1st Bayanihan Village in San Remigio town, and the Cebu Provincial Hospital and Tent City in Bogo City.
According to Philippines News Agency, after the site visits, Marcos said he was elated by the significant progress in efforts to restore normalcy in the quake-affected areas, emphasizing that concerned government agencies and private partners are moving in the right direction. Marcos noted that displaced residents whose homes were damaged by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake on September 30 now have temporary shelters with the deployment of modular housing units (MSUs) by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD). The DHSUD has started the turnover of the newly constructed MSUs in Barangay Poblacion to the local government of San Remigio.
The president mentioned that quake victims also received cash assistance and construction materials to help repair their damaged houses. He assured that the aid and support will continue to address any needs that arise, emphasizing the commitment to ensure the well-being and health of all affected individuals.
Marcos also expressed gratitude to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) for its vital humanitarian assistance to communities affected by the recent earthquake. He praised the PRC's initiative of setting up a swimming pool for children, highlighting its potential benefit for their mental recovery amid the trauma caused by the disaster.
Two tent cities were initially established in Bogo City and Medellin municipality, with a total of 159 tents installed.
