Quezon city: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the immediate technical assessment of Culiat Bridge II along Congressional Avenue in Quezon City after a fire damaged the structure on Saturday night, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon announced in a social media post late Sunday that the agency will carry out temporary repairs on portions of the bridge where the asphalt pavement had lifted due to the intense heat. The DPWH also conducted clearing operations in coordination with the Quezon City government to remove debris and secure the area.

Dizon stated that a technical team is continuing its structural evaluation to determine the extent of the damage and identify the rehabilitation work needed to ensure the bridge is safe for motorists. Authorities have kept Culiat Bridge II closed while inspections are underway. The fire also affected more than 40 houses beneath the bridge.

The Quezon City government has advised motorists to take alternate routes until further notice.
