President Marcos noted that Rasul's passing is "a loss deeply felt not only by her family but by the entire Filipino nation." According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos' message, released by Malacañang, emphasized Rasul's historic and transformative impact on the Philippines. As the first and only Muslim woman senator, Rasul was recognized as a trailblazer for equality and empowerment, breaking barriers with her legislative work. Her legacy, described as "extraordinary," extends beyond her legislative achievements, leaving a lasting imprint on the nation's history and the lives she touched. President Marcos praised Rasul for her wisdom, grace, and integrity, noting her influence both within government and among the people she served. Her efforts championing the rights of marginalized communities, advocating for wo men's roles in the military, and inspiring underrepresented sectors are highlighted as part of her enduring legacy. Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, the first Muslim budget secretary of the Philippines, also expressed her sorrow over Rasul's passing. Pangandaman spoke of being "deeply inspired" by Rasul's dedication to uplifting their region and advocating for ideals she firmly believed in. She acknowledged Rasul's pioneering role as the first Muslim woman senator and her advocacy for education, women's rights, and minority welfare. Rasul's legislative career spanned from 1987 to 1995, during which she authored several significant laws, including the Women in Development and Nation Building Act, enabling female cadets' entry into the Philippine Military Academy, and the law declaring March 8 as National Women's Day. Her early career included roles as a public school teacher, village councilor, and Sulu Provincial Board member. She was also instrumental in peace negotiations with the Moro National Libera tion Front under President Fidel V. Ramos and served as a commissioner representing Muslim and ethnic minorities.
