PBBM to Name New Ombudsman Based on Recommendations, Findings

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced he will select a new Ombudsman based on recommendations and results of the interviews with candidates. "Titignan natin kung ano 'yung recommendation, ano 'yung findings (Let's see what the recommendation is and findings are), etcetera. Then a decision will be made," Marcos stated when asked about considering Justice Secretary Jesus Crisipin Remulla as a successor to Samuel Martires.

According to Philippines News Agency, no replacement has been selected since Martires' retirement. Marcos emphasized that the process is still ongoing, saying, "We're not at that point yet. Wala pa tayo doon. Hintayin natin 'yung proseso (We're not there yet. Let's wait for the process). As I said, hindi pa tapos 'yung mga interview (The interviews aren't over yet)."

Marcos also mentioned plans to consult with the Judicial and Bar Council after the interviews to understand "what they have to say" about the appointment of the next Ombudsman.

In response to rumors, Malaca±ang dismissed suggestions that the Marcos administration is planning to imprison Duterte and her allies by 2028 as 'wild imagination.' Palace Press Officer Claire Castro clarified in a press briefing on September 3 that President Marcos desires an impartial Ombudsman.
