Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has expressed his intent to promote the Philippines 'as it is' when the country chairs the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2026. Marcos emphasized that there is no need to prove the Philippines' worth to its fellow Southeast Asian countries, highlighting that the nation should simply showcase its capabilities.
According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos shared his perspective on part 4 of the BBM Podcast's third episode, stating, "I want them to see the Philippines as it is. I'm so proud of the Philippines." He noted that the nation is already beautiful without the need for embellishment. Marcos expressed confidence that ASEAN member-states recognize the 'beauty of the Philippines,' particularly appreciating the hard work and kindness of its people.
He further mentioned that his administration is diligently working to strengthen foreign relations with other countries. "What I really want to show is that the Philippines has now come together," Marcos noted, emphasizing a collective effort to move in the right direction. This approach, he believes, is the most important aspect of his leadership.
In a related message for ASEAN's 58th founding anniversary, Marcos pledged to build on the regional bloc's legacy in addressing evolving priorities and emerging challenges as the Philippines prepares to assume the chairship next year.
