Manila: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued and assisted over 8,000 individuals in Romblon, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Pampanga, as the Department of Transportation (DOTr) kept transport services running across areas affected by heavy rains from tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay and the enhanced southwest monsoon.

According to Philippines News Agency, the PCG also provided free rides to stranded passengers specifically in Cavite and Batangas. DOTr field personnel, including those from the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), were deployed across affected areas to monitor road and terminal conditions, assist stranded commuters, and support relief and rescue efforts.

SAICT personnel have also been on the ground 24/7, assisting passengers along the EDSA Busway to ensure continuous operations. Aside from the PCG, several partner agencies also provided free rides to stranded commuters, including the Office of the President, Department of Energy, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Public Works and Highways, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Department of Economy, Planning, and Development, Department of Labor and Employment, Philippine National Police, Philippine Ports Authority, LTFRB, and LTO.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez thanked DOTr personnel for their continued service to commuters despite the weather. "Muling ipinakita ng ating mga personnel mula sa SAICT, LTO, LTFRB, PCG at iba pang DOTr frontliners kung ano ang ibig sabihin ng paglilingkod ng higit pa sa tawag ng tungkulin (Our personnel from SAICT, LTO, LTFRB, PCG, and other DOTr frontliners have once again shown what it means to serve beyond the call of duty)," Lopez said.

The DOTr said it will continue to closely monitor the weather situation and coordinate with concerned agencies to ensure the safety of both commuters and personnel.
