Negros oriental: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Negros Oriental has alerted its personnel for the possible effects of Tropical Depression Crising. In an interview with the Philippine News Agency on Thursday, Coast Guard Station -Negros Oriental commander Lt. Marionne Abigail Enopia said they are now under "blue alert."
According to Philippines News Agency, Lt. Enopia highlighted that they are closely monitoring flood-prone areas such as Siaton and Sta. Catalina, which are susceptible to river swelling during heavy rainfall. The "blue alert" status signifies that Coast Guard personnel in various sub-stations are prepared for immediate response if required.
Enopia mentioned that sea travel from Negros Oriental has not been canceled yet, although a shipping line is considering suspending its trips to nearby Siquijor due to large waves. Coast Guard personnel are also advising local fisherfolk to be cautious during bad weather and adhere to advisories.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has placed Negros Oriental under the yellow rainfall category as of Thursday noon. Despite this, local authorities are taking preventive measures. Governor Manuel Sagarbarria has ordered the suspension of classes at all levels in public and private schools across the province.
The executive order for class suspension was issued late Wednesday, as Crising is expected to intensify the southwest monsoon, bringing widespread rains to many parts of the country. Governor Sagarbarria stated that the suspension will remain in effect until further notice.
