Bicol: The Philippine Coast Guard in Bicol (PCG-5) is preparing for an expected influx of approximately 185,000 passengers across various ports in the region as it initiates maritime safety measures for the upcoming holiday season.

According to Philippines News Agency, Commodore Ivan Roldan, in a phone interview on Friday, stated that continuous monitoring of ports and vessel inspections are being conducted to ensure safe and orderly travel from December 20, 2025, until January 4, 2026. The Department of Transportation has set up Malasakit Help Desks at major seaports to provide travelers with assistance and quick emergency responses.

"Our Search and Rescue (SAR) units, response teams, and floating assets are on heightened alert. We are continuously coordinating with port stakeholders and maritime agencies to ensure passenger safety and security," Roldan explained. The PCG-5 anticipates more than 100,000 outbound passengers and over 85,000 inbound passengers, particularly at ports handling island-bound and inter-island routes.

Roldan highlighted the readiness of over 300 front-line personnel from PCG-Bicol, who are on standby for deployment. They are supported by 17 floating assets and seven land vehicles. Sea passengers are reminded to arrive early at ports, follow safety protocols, wear life jackets when required, and avoid boarding vessels that are overloaded or lack proper safety equipment.

"Passengers are also encouraged to secure tickets from legitimate sources, stay vigilant, and report any safety concerns to Coast Guard personnel or the Malasakit Help Desks located at the ports," Roldan advised.
