PCG Provides Essential Supplies to Fisherfolk in Bataan

Mariveles: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has successfully distributed food and water to approximately 160 marginalized fisherfolk in Mariveles, Bataan. This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to supply essential goods during maritime patrols. According to Philippines News Agency, PCG Spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab detailed in a Radyo Pilipinas interview that the distribution was conducted by the BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406). Each fishing boat received supplies including rice, bread, ready-to-eat food, and drinking water. The effort was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the PCG Auxiliary 110th Squadron as part of the PCG's Intensified Community Assistance Awareness Response and Enforcement Program (iCARE). Cayabyab emphasized the PCG's mission to provide timely support to fisherfolk and bolster their resilience, particularly in coastal communities. The aid distribution also aims to mitigate the impact of rising f uel costs on these communities amid the ongoing Middle East conflict. In a related development, Cayabyab announced that all PCG offices across the nation will enter a heightened state of alert from March 28 until April 5. This is part of a broader government initiative to ensure the safety and security of the public transportation sector during the upcoming Holy Week and summer vacation period. Cayabyab advised port passengers to book tickets in advance to avoid travel inconveniences and reminded them to refrain from bringing prohibited items, such as flammable and explosive materials. She also cautioned against engaging in water activities while intoxicated and urged vigilance over children to prevent accidents. Last year, the highest number of maritime incidents reported during Holy Week were drownings, she noted.
