PCSO Turns Over P26.5-M Healthcare Aid to Aklan

Kalibo: The province of Aklan has received PHP26.5 million worth of patient transport vehicles (PTVs) and medical equipment from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to help improve healthcare services in the province. PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles stated that the two PTVs are expected to enhance patient mobility and emergency medical response, particularly in geographically isolated and underserved communities.

According to Philippines News Agency, among the beneficiaries of the medical equipment is Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital, which received a low-temperature plasma sterilizer, a fully automated PCR system, four ventilators, and an anesthesia machine. Robles emphasized that the equipment would bolster the hospital's diagnostic, surgical, infection control, and critical care capabilities.

Aklan Governor Jose Enrique Martin Miraflores formally accepted the assistance on behalf of the province during a ceremony held in Kalibo. Robles highlighted that the agency's healthcare programs aim to benefit communities irrespective of political affiliation. "We do not look at our charitable programs from a political perspective. The President's instruction is clear: healthcare should not be politicized. That is precisely what we are putting into practice and implementing today," Robles declared in a statement.

He also stressed the importance of ensuring access to quality healthcare services for low-income Filipinos. "It is important that poor Filipinos have access to healthcare options. Even if they are unable to pay, they should still be able to receive quality medical services comparable to those available in private hospitals," he remarked.

Aside from the medical equipment and transport vehicles, the province also received PHP363,914.26 as its share from PCSO lotto revenues for the period covering July to December 2025. The funds are intended to support local government programs, including health-related initiatives and other public services.

Governor Miraflores expressed gratitude to the PCSO for the assistance, noting that the equipment and transport vehicles would aid in enhancing healthcare delivery and expanding access to medical services for Aklan residents. The turnover signifies the ongoing partnership between the PCSO and local government units in reinforcing healthcare infrastructure and services in the provinces.
