The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Zamboanga Peninsula (PDEA-9) has warned the public against the use of an illegal and dangerous new drug substance, known as “shabu pills”.

Darmalyn Jumlail, PDEA-9 information officer, issued the warning Thursday after authorities in Manila have seized several pieces of the new type of illegal drug.

Jumlail said PDEA-9 is closely working together with other law enforcement agencies to prevent the entry of the new drug substance into the city and the region.

“We are warning everyone that this kind of illegal drug is not safe,” Jumlail said.

“We are calling the public to immediately report to authorities should they learn about a different kind of drug in their community so that we can act to prevent its proliferation,” she added.

The new shabu pill is potent, that person will remain awake for a week after taking the drug.

The shabu pill contains shabu, caffeine, and ethyl vanillin, which is stronger than the traditional crystalline powder form locally known as shabu.

Reports showed that the price of the shabu pill ranges from PHP2,500 to PHP5,000 each.
