PDEA and PNVSCA Forge Alliance to Promote Volunteerism in Anti-Drug Initiatives

Quezon city: The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at bolstering the nation's efforts against illegal drugs. This agreement marks a significant step in integrating volunteerism into national development as part of the government's comprehensive approach.

According to Philippines News Agency, PDEA Director General Undersecretary Isagani Nerez highlighted the critical role of volunteerism in enhancing the government's anti-drug initiatives. He noted that the partnership reflects a unified goal to empower communities and expand the reach of their services. Nerez remarked, "Our partnership is a testament to what we can achieve when agencies unite with one purpose: to serve better, reach farther, and empower communities."

The agreement, signed by Nerez and PNVSCA Executive Director Donald James Gawe at the PDEA main conference room in Quezon City, outlines various responsibilities for both agencies. PNVSCA will offer technical assistance, capacity-building training, and support to enhance PDEA's volunteerism program, ensuring its alignment with the Volunteer Act of 2007 (Republic Act 9418).

The collaboration aims to improve coordination among government agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), and local government units (LGUs) in addressing the challenges posed by illegal drugs. PNVSCA is committed to assisting PDEA in strengthening volunteerism efforts, providing technical support, and building a robust network of volunteers and stakeholders.

PDEA, in turn, will facilitate volunteer participation and coordination, offering critical data and information related to its ongoing programs and activities. The partnership seeks to promote volunteerism as a strategic asset for national development and a tool for drug abuse prevention.

The MOU underscores the importance of collective action in tackling complex issues like illegal drug abuse, involving active participation from both governmental and non-governmental sectors. It also reinforces the Philippine government's dedication to advancing volunteerism as a driver for national growth and social development.

PNVSCA, tasked with institutionalizing volunteerism in the Philippines, ensures that volunteer efforts effectively contribute to nation-building and development goals. The agency formulates policies, coordinates efforts, develops standards, and builds capacities for both volunteers and organizations. It also maintains a national registry of volunteer organizations and volunteers for enhanced coordination and policy support.
