Quezon city: The Philippine Army (PA) announced that its 525th Combat Engineer Battalion (525CEBn), the primary unit for humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR), was dispatched to rescue families affected by flooding in Quezon City and Marikina on Monday night.
According to Philippines News Agency, PA spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala stated that the 525CEBn deployed two light urban search and rescue (USAR) teams to tackle the challenges in the low-lying, flood-prone areas of these cities. The teams were engaged in water search and rescue operations to save elderly individuals, children, and persons with disabilities as heavy monsoon rains caused extensive flooding.
Dema-ala further noted that the PA's HADR units are collaborating with national government agencies, local government units, and private sector responders to enhance rescue efforts in the affected communities. "Our troops and assets are pre-positioned and deployed to vulnerable areas, ready to rescue affected families and assist communities in subsequent relief and rehabilitation efforts," he emphasized.
