Manila: Malaca±ang emphasized the importance of the Philippines' cyber defense partnership with Canada in strengthening the country's national cybersecurity posture amid the evolving cyber threats. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that the Philippines is enhancing its collaboration with countries like Canada and Japan to address issues such as state-sponsored attacks and espionage, foreign interference and misinformation, ransomware and data breaches, critical infrastructure protection, talent and infrastructure gaps.

According to Philippines News Agency, Castro highlighted the evolving nature of cyber threats and the necessity for continuous knowledge exchange to better protect the country from cyber-attacks. She emphasized the importance of partnering with countries possessing extensive knowledge of cyber defense mechanisms.

The Philippines and Canada have intensified cooperation in cyber defense and information security following a high-level meeting between officials from the Department of National Defense and Canada's cybersecurity leadership. Discussions during the meeting focused on strategic cyber threat intelligence exchange, updates on emerging threats, as well as joint training programs and professional exchanges.

Both nations have agreed to maintain this cooperation through the regular convening of an annual Philippines-Canada Cyber Working Group, ensuring continuity and measurable outcomes in their collaborative efforts.
