Manila: Nominations are now open for the 3rd Philippine Resilience Awards (PRA), which honors individuals who demonstrate exemplary commitment to advancing climate action and building resilience against disasters.
According to Philippines News Agency, this year's PRA, themed 'Kabataan at Kababaihan: Katuwang sa Paghahabi ng Isang Matatag na Bayan (Youth and Women: Partners in Weaving a Strong Nation),' focuses on the critical role that youth and women play in strengthening community resilience and promoting sustainable development. The awards aim to spotlight how their leadership, innovation, and advocacy contribute to a climate-smart and disaster-prepared Philippines.
Senator Loren Legarda, the pioneer behind the PRA, emphasized the necessity of empowering these climate advocates by recognizing their significant contributions. 'We must scale up our efforts, recognizing that these climate advocates are essential. We need to empower them and honor the work they do,' she stated in a news release. 'They are the changemakers and innovators who will lead our country in preparing for and responding to climate-related disasters.'
The nomination process requires applicants to be recommended by an organization or individual, as self-nominations are not permitted. The awards are exclusively open to women and youth, specifically those aged 15 to 30 as of nomination, who are leading initiatives in sustainability and climate-related disaster preparedness. Nominees should have a demonstrable impact and influence within their communities, actively driving action and inspiring change in response to climate challenges.
The PRA is spearheaded by the Office of Senator Loren Legarda, in partnership with the Climate Change Commission, the Philippine Commission on Women, National Resilience Council, SM Prime, ARISE Philippines, and the Women's International Network on Disaster Risk Reduction - Philippines. Nominations can be submitted through the PRA portal, with separate links for youth and other categories.
The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2025. For more details on nomination guidelines, eligibility, and submission procedures, interested parties are encouraged to visit the official Facebook page of the PRA.
