San juan city: The Department of Tourism (DOT) is actively seeking investments from Japan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and other countries to enhance the tourism sector in the Philippines, as stated by Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco on Tuesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, during the 2025 post-State of the Nation Address (SONA) conference, Secretary Frasco highlighted the government's strategy to attract both international and domestic investments. This initiative is supported by the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises to Maximize Opportunities for Reinvigorating the Economy (CREATE MORE) law, which aims to foster a favorable investment climate.
Frasco emphasized the ongoing partnerships and bilateral relations with countries worldwide, inviting them to invest in the Philippines' accommodation, marine transport, amusement, recreation, and other sectors. Key countries of interest include Japan, the UAE, Thailand, and the United States.
She underscored the enhanced investment climate in the country, especially with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) being recognized as an 'investment promotion agency.' This classification allows TIEZA to offer incentives to those investing in tourism-related projects across the nation.
On the DOT's front, continued investment in both popular and emerging tourist destinations is a priority. Plans include constructing additional tourist rest stops in various provinces to boost infrastructure.
Frasco also expressed optimism for increased tourism infrastructure funding from the 20th Congress, aligning with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s recent classification of tourism as a vital sector for improving employment opportunities for Filipinos.
