Nay Pyi Taw: The Philippine Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent (PIAHC) is persisting with its vital rescue and medical operations in Myanmar, more than a week after a significant 7.7-magnitude earthquake impacted the Southeast Asian nation. The 89-member team, which landed on April 1 and 2, is actively collaborating with international partners to assist affected communities, showcasing the Philippines' dedication to international humanitarian efforts, as stated by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Saturday. According to Philippines News Agency, Lt. Col. Erwen Diploma, PAF, Contingent Commander, inspected the Urban Search and Rescue operations on April 4 at the collapsed Jade City Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. Here, Filipino responders are working alongside teams from Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia to locate potential survivors. In tandem with the ongoing rescue missions, Philippine medical teams are delivering necessary healthcare. The Philippine Emergency Medical Assistance Teams (PEMAT) Type 1 Fixed Hospita l, situated near Bomingaung Temple, commenced services on April 4, offering free consultations to residents. This follows 17 consultations by the second augmentation team in Lewe Township the previous day, which included general medicine, surgery, orthopedics, and obstetrics. Operations at the PEMAT hospital in Pyinmana began on April 3, where 94 patients received treatment, comprising 68 for general medicine and 20 for surgical care. Xinhua News reported that the death toll from the March 28 earthquake has climbed to 3,145, with 4,589 individuals injured and 221 still missing. Mandalay has been identified as the most severely affected area, recording 2,053 deaths and 2,691 injuries.
