PH, US Air Forces Unveil New Fuel Storage Facility in Cebu

Lapu-Lapu City: The Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the US Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) inaugurated a newly completed fuel storage facility at the Brig. Gen. Benito N. Ebuen Air Base in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, highlighting the strong military alliance between the two nations.

According to Philippines News Agency, the USD2.7-million project was funded by the US government under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) and features two above-ground storage tanks, each with a capacity of 75,708 liters. The facility includes a modern fuel handling system, a covered parking area for refueling trucks, and a secured perimeter, all designed and constructed in compliance with security and safety standards, as stated by PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo.

The construction of the facility was undertaken by Himalayan Builders and Engineers Pvt. Ltd. and ACE Builders, starting on June 22, 2022, and completed on September 6, 2024. The inauguration was attended by PAF Air Mobility Command chief Maj. Gen. Ramil Oloroso and PACAF commander Gen. Kevin Schneider, marking the blessing and turnover of the facility.

Col. Castillo emphasized that the project will enhance the PAF's fuel storage and distribution capabilities, improving operational readiness and logistical efficiency. The facility is expected to support humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations, strengthen national defense capabilities, and sustain a wide range of PAF flying missions, including airlift, internal security, and territorial defense operations.

Maj. Gen. Oloroso expressed gratitude for the continued support and partnership with PACAF, highlighting the importance of the EDCA project in facilitating cooperation in humanitarian operations and strengthening the country's defense capabilities while promoting regional security.
