PH, Vietnam MOU on Defense Cooperation Showcases ASEAN Unity

Manila: Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. stated that the renewal of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on defense cooperation between the Philippines and Vietnam demonstrates the strength and solidarity of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He emphasized the robust bilateral relations and enhanced strategic partnership between the two nations, highlighting that the renewed MOU signals to the world that ASEAN is both strong and united.

According to Philippines News Agency, Teodoro expressed that the commitment to peace, stability, and security will be maintained with respect for sovereign rights and territorial integrity, honoring the nations' best traditions and cultures. He further acknowledged the cooperation between the Philippines and Vietnam during times of need, particularly in dealing with natural disasters like typhoons, and discussed ways to enhance defense partnerships.

Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, Gen. Phan Van Giang, noted the agricultural similarities between the two countries and reiterated their mutual support in various international affairs and forums. He expressed hope for continued support in multilateral and bilateral engagements.

Phan also extended an invitation to Teodoro to visit Vietnam soon and mentioned the upcoming Defense Expo at the end of the year, expressing interest in the participation of Philippine businesses.
