PH Welcomes Ceasefire Deal Between Israel and Hamas, Hopes for Long-term Peace in Middle East

Manila: The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday welcomed the ceasefire peace deal reached between Israel and Hamas, which will facilitate the release of all remaining hostages in Gaza. The DFA expressed optimism that this agreement marks a significant step towards de-escalation and revives hope for all those affected in the region, particularly the hostages and the people in Gaza.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DFA acknowledged the diplomatic efforts by the mediators, which include the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, in securing a necessary pause in hostilities. The department issued a statement applauding the breakthrough and extending congratulations to the peacemakers involved. The Philippines aspires for this initial step to pave the way for long-term peace and stability in the region, where approximately 2 million Filipinos reside, and numerous seafarers navigate through.

US President Donald Trump officially announced on Thursday that Israel and Hamas have reached a deal on a plan aimed at ending the two-year conflict in Gaza. During a press conference, Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Dana Kursh detailed that the first phase of the agreement, which involves the release of all hostages from the October 7 Hamas attack, will commence with a ceasefire at 5 p.m. on October 9 (Philippine time).

When queried about Israel's vision for the final phase of the agreement, Kursh reiterated Israel's aspiration to 'live in peace' with its neighbors. She emphasized the necessity for a solution that originates from both Israeli and Palestinian leadership, reflecting a mutual desire for the same land and underscoring the need for diplomatic resolution.
