Manila: The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has announced an expansion of its Z Benefits Package in conjunction with Cervical Cancer Awareness Month this May. The package now offers up to PHP175,000 in financial support for advanced cervical cancer treatments, aiming to alleviate the economic strain on affected families.
According to Philippines News Agency, PhilHealth's advisory highlights the substantial financial aid designed to support patients diagnosed with cervical cancer at stages ranging from IA1 to IIIB. The package includes a PHP175,000 subsidy for those requiring advanced chemoradiation, and PHP120,000 for individuals undergoing either chemoradiation or primary surgery. This initiative comes in response to alarming statistics from the Philippine Cancer Society, which reported approximately 7,897 new cervical cancer cases annually, with an average of 12 female deaths daily due to the disease.
Cervical cancer remains the fourth leading cause of cancer-related fatalities among Filipino women aged 15 to 44. In addition to treatment benefits, PhilHealth is advocating for its YAKAP (Yaman ng Kalusugan Program) to improve access to preventive services. The program urges members to visit YAKAP Clinics for pap smears, which are critical for early detection and effective management of cervical cancer.
PhilHealth emphasizes its commitment to supporting Filipino women through comprehensive financial packages and primary care initiatives, cementing its role as a steadfast ally in the battle against cervical cancer.
