Manila: The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has called on Filipinos to utilize its benefit packages for the diagnosis, treatment, and surgery of thyroid cancer. This initiative aligns with the National Thyroid Cancer Awareness Week, typically observed in the last week of September, as established by Republic Act 10786, aiming to educate the public on symptoms and early preventive measures against the disease.
According to Philippines News Agency, thyroid cancer ranks among the most prevalent cancers in the country, yet it is often curable when detected at an early stage. PhilHealth stressed the significance of regular medical check-ups and being informed about symptoms such as lumps or swelling in the neck, changes in voice, and difficulties in swallowing or breathing.
To assist patients in managing medical expenses, PhilHealth offers several benefit packages, including PHP22,230 for Malignant Neoplasm of the Thyroid Gland, which covers part of the costs for diagnosis, consultation, and initial medical management. For surgical procedures, the agency provides up to PHP60,450 for a Total or Complete Thyroidectomy and up to PHP90,675 for more complex cases involving neck dissection. These packages encompass both professional fees and hospital charges.
PhilHealth also urged the public to engage in awareness activities, partake in regular screenings, and explore the comprehensive range of services available.
