Philippine Government Intensifies Support for OFWs Amid Ongoing Israel-Iran Conflict

Manila: The Philippine government remains relentless in assisting affected Filipinos amid the conflict between Israel and Iran, Malaca±ang said on Thursday. In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro highlighted ongoing efforts to repatriate distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, around eight distressed OFWs from Israel are expected to return home on Thursday night. Additionally, plans are underway for about 12 OFWs to depart Tel Aviv on July 4, with another 25 scheduled to return on July 6, as detailed by Castro.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has been actively providing support, with 188 OFWs from Israel receiving financial assistance equivalent to USD200. Furthermore, 304 OFWs have been given hygiene kits and food packs, as reported by Castro during the Palace press briefing.

Castro emphasized that claims suggesting the government is inactive or lacks a plan to aid Filipinos amid the Israel-Iran conflict are false. "Kaya po ang sinasabi na walang ginagawa at walang plano ang pamahalaan patungkol sa ating mga kababayan, iyan po ay isang malaking kasinungalingan," she said, asserting the government's commitment to the welfare of its citizens.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has lowered the alert level in Israel to Alert Level 2, yet monitoring and assistance for those seeking repatriation continue. The DMW noted that since June 23, approximately 373 of the nearly 30,000 OFWs in Israel have expressed a desire to return home. To date, around 26 OFWs have already been successfully repatriated.
