Philippines to Host International Public Procurement Conference

Manila: The Philippines will host the East Asia and the Pacific International Public Procurement Conference from April 28 to 30. This event will bring together more than 150 procurement experts and officials from 15 countries within the region to address pressing challenges and reforms related to government spending and transparency. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is scheduled to lead the opening ceremony in Manila, as announced by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the conference is co-organized by the DBM, the Government Procurement Policy Board - Technical Support Office (GPPB-TSO), and the World Bank. Its main objective is to foster regional collaboration on procurement modernization. The event will include plenary sessions, panel discussions, and case studies that aim to promote accountability, inclusion, and sustainable public spending.

DBM Secretary and GPPB Chairperson Amenah Pangandaman highlighted the significance of procurement as a major governmental activity crucial for ensuring efficient and effective service delivery to citizens. She emphasized that the conference would showcase the Philippines' progress under the landmark New Government Procurement Act (NGPA) and position the country as a regional leader in modern procurement policy.

Pangandaman described the NGPA as a significant anti-corruption law in modern times, fostering enhanced transparency, accountability, and value for money. She expressed excitement about presenting the country's key accomplishments and milestones in public procurement during the event.

With the theme 'Procurement for the People: Bridging Innovation, Value for Money, and Accountability,' the three-day conference will explore how procurement practices can drive community empowerment, generational investments, and climate action. Other topics include professionalizing procurement systems and strengthening participatory governance.
