Manila: The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) announced on Thursday it has inked a knowledge sharing agreement with the Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines (GEP) to harness space-enabled geospatial application. The agreement, signed last Oct. 7, seeks to enhance the use of space science and technology applications and geospatial tools in support of disaster risk reduction and management, environmental protection, agricultural monitoring, and sustainable land and resource management.
According to Philippines News Agency, GEP will provide technical inputs and share drone imagery with them. PhilSA, for its part, will develop and manage space-enabled tools and applications, including the processing and sharing of satellite imagery and datasets. "Integrating spaceborne and ground-based data will allow both institutions to generate comprehensive, actionable insights that support planning, decision-making, and policy formulation," PhilSA said in a news release.
A technical working group will be formed to identify pilot areas, integrate GEP's data into PhilSA's geospatial platforms, and implement capacity-building activities to sustain the partnership's long-term objectives, PhilSA said.
