Manila: Taal Volcano's small eruptions, even several times a day, are considered normal behavior, "This is normal in Taal Volcano, especially when there is continuous degassing or release of volcanic gas. We had several instances in the past when there were short-lived eruptions in a day," Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol told the Philippine News Agency on Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, on Sunday, Phivolcs recorded one phreatic and two phreatomagmatic eruptions at the volcano. Bacolcol said the phreatic eruption, which lasted for a minute, was triggered by the interaction of water with hot volcanic rocks or hot volcanic gases, producing steam and ash plume.

"The second and third eruptions were the result of the interaction between water and magma, producing stronger steam-driven explosion," he explained. Taal remains under Alert Level 1, but Bacolcol reminded the public that entry into the permanent danger zone, including Taal Volcano Island, is strictly prohibited as eruptions can occur without warning.
