Marawi city: The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) will bring its Postal ID Caravan to the Marawi Convention Center in Ground Zero, Marawi City from Aug. 19 to 23 to make government identification more accessible to residents. In a statement on Thursday, PHLPost said the initiative underscores its commitment to bringing essential government services closer to communities continuing their journey of recovery, rebuilding, and development following the 2017 siege.

According to Philippines News Agency, through the caravan, residents of Marawi and surrounding communities in Lanao del Sur can apply for a Postal ID, a recognized government-issued identification card used for identity verification in government, financial, educational, travel, and employment transactions.

To make the process more inclusive, applicants without existing government-issued IDs may establish their identity using a birth certificate. Proof of residence can be established through supporting documents such as a barangay certificate or proof of billing displaying the applicant's exact name and current address.

PHLPost noted that the flexible policy is designed to assist first-time ID holders and residents in remote, culturally diverse communities, including Indigenous Peoples and Muslim communities. 'The postal service is one with the people of Marawi in their continuing journey toward recovery, resilience, and development. Through the Postal ID Caravan, we bring essential government services closer to the community and help ensure that no Filipino is left behind in accessing a trusted means of identification,' PHLPost said.
