Makati city: Filipino tennis players Tennielle Madis and Stefi Marithe Aludo have successfully moved into the semifinals of the girls' doubles at the J60 PHINMA-ITF Championships, held at the Manila Polo Club. The pair triumphed over fellow Filipinos Ayl Xyza Gonzaga and Erynne Francesca Ong with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory.
According to Philippines News Agency, Madis and Aludo will face the tournament's top seeds, Yesung Choo from Korea and Aoi Watanabe from Japan, who advanced after their opponents, Emma Lam Singh Maan of Singapore and Lara Rauti of Hong Kong, retired with the scores at 5-0. In other quarterfinal action, Yuhan Chen of China and Yu-Ning Tsai of Chinese Taipei secured their semifinal spot by beating local competitors Louraine Jallorina and Arriana Reign Maglana, 6-2, 6-2.
Chen and Tsai are set to compete against Taylah Lessue of Australia and Seojin Park of Korea. Lessue and Park managed a narrow 7-6 (4), 7-5 victory over Yen-Ni Chiang of Chinese Taipei and Haritha Shree Venkatesh of India.
In singles play, top-seeded Madis dominated her match against Japanese player Reyna Geisler, finishing 6-1, 6-1, which sets her up for a clash with No. 8 seed Yen-Ni Chiang, who defeated local qualifier Mitchellen Alexa Cruspero, 6-0, 6-0. Meanwhile, seventh-seeded Aludo defeated Jallorina, 6-0, 6-3, and will face fourth seed Yu-Ning Tsai, who emerged victorious over Christina Hansman of Sweden, 6-0, 6-2.
In the boys' doubles, the team of Kuan-Ting Chen from Chinese Taipei and Tae Woo Kim of South Korea progressed to the semifinals by overcoming Hung-Jui Chen and Ting-Ho Yang with a 6-1, 6-1 win. They will face Luke Jie Ho of Singapore and Ryu Kotikula of Thailand, who defeated local players John Kendrick Bona and Ariel Cabaral, 6-3, 6-4.
India's Anurag Shourya Kallambella and Hruthik Katakam reached the semis after their Korean opponents retired at a 3-all stalemate in the first set. They will compete against the fourth seeds, Kousuke Ko and Kuan-Hsien Yu of Chinese Taipei, who prevailed over Japanese Daiya Hino and Indian Ojas Mehlawat in a challenging match, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 10-3.
In the boys' singles category, Hruthik Katakam ousted No. 8 seed Hayato Sata of Australia, 6-1, 6-1, and will face No. 3 seed Min Hyuk Cho of Korea, who won against Kuan-Hsien Yu, 6-1, 7-6 (2). The other semifinal will see No. 2 seed Tae Woo Kim from South Korea against Ryu Kotikula, following Kim's victory over Kuan-Ting Chen, 6-4, 6-4, and Kotikula's win against Lachlan King of Australia, 6-4, 6-3.
