Manila: Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil on Thursday ordered all police units nationwide to intensify security measures and provide essential assistance to motorists and the public in preparation for the annual All Saints' and All Souls' holidays. According to Philippines News Agency, Marbil stated that the heightened deployment aims to secure communities and reinforce a sense of peace and safety across the nation. He announced the deployment of additional personnel to communities, cemeteries, transport terminals, and other areas where people traditionally gather to commemorate their loved ones. Marbil emphasized the importance of police visibility to ensure public security during these significant holidays. Marbil highlighted that police efforts would primarily focus on deterring crimes as many citizens travel to their hometowns for the annual observance. He outlined the twofold goal of securing communities from opportunistic crimes, such as 'akyat-bahay,' and assisting m otorists and the general public who may require help during this period. He assured that police visibility and vigilance would be at an all-time high to guarantee a safe and peaceful observance of 'Undas.' In addition to security measures, Marbil instructed all units to conduct preventive anti-crime operations in strategic locations. He also emphasized the importance of supporting traffic and crowd management around cemeteries and major roadways. Marbil issued a stern warning to those with ill intentions, affirming that the PNP is ready and on alert to safeguard and assist individuals on the roads and in busy areas. In related developments, the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) announced that tollway operators are required to open all toll lanes and implement counterflow traffic schemes in congested areas. They are also mandated to provide free towing for Class 1 vehicles, continuous traffic updates, and suspend road works that may impede traffic flow. Furthermore, assistance stations will be established to addre ss motorists in distress and to prevent unauthorized access to toll roads. The TRB has deployed a road safety team to monitor traffic situations along expressways. Additionally, 24/7 emergency vehicle repair services, security patrols, and first aid stations are available. The TRB team is also tasked with responding to hotline calls, posting regular traffic updates on social media, and coordinating with tollway operators' traffic control centers.
