PNP Committee Ramps Up Crackdown on Disinformation

Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP), through its Joint Anti-Fake News Action Committee (JAFNAC), has launched an investigation into the alleged disinformation on the purported kidnapping of several high-profile Chinese business personalities. This complies with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to combat the spread of disinformation under his governance agenda.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil stated that the JAFNAC, led by Deputy for Operations Lt. Gen. Robert Rodriguez, is collaborating with the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) to conduct a focused and thorough probe. The aim is to identify and hold accountable those responsible for spreading this baseless and malicious information.

Marbil mentioned that the creation of JAFNAC is a proactive measure by the PNP to institutionalize coordination, monitoring, and rapid response strategies to counter disinformation across all platforms. "We will not rest until we uncover the individuals behind these fabricated reports. The PNP will exhaust all legal and operational means to find those responsible and ensure they are held accountable. There is no room for disinformation in this country," he emphasized.

Marbil also reminded the public, including vloggers, content creators, and social media influencers, to be responsible and careful when posting content online. He stressed the importance of verifying information before sharing it, especially when it involves sensitive matters such as national security and public safety.
