PNP-HPG Intel Officer Survives Gun Attack in Makati

Makati city: An intelligence officer of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) is now in stable condition after surviving a gun attack by two assailants in Makati City on August 1. The officer, a police lieutenant, was ambushed while having his car washed at the corner of Edison and Faraday streets in Barangay San Isidro.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP-HPG spokesperson Lt. Dame Malang disclosed details of the incident during a press briefing at Camp Crame on Tuesday. The officer had been preparing to meet a confidential agent concerning a case operation plan when the attack occurred. This plan involved targeting known criminal groups and most wanted individuals.

Lt. Malang shared that the officer, a former Limbas unit member, was handling a high-profile case operation plan. However, the meeting with the confidential agent did not take place due to the attack. While Malang did not reveal the officer's name, he confirmed that the officer is recovering and in stable condition.

The officer sustained nine gunshot wounds in the shoulder, stomach, thigh, and knee. Investigators are considering robbery as a motive, as the suspects took the officer's service firearm, wallet, cellphone, and necklace. CCTV footage captured the officer's attempt to reach for his gun before the suspects overpowered him.

A security guard was also injured by a stray bullet during the incident. Authorities recovered at least 14 cartridges from a 9mm gun at the scene. The Makati police are actively searching for the suspects involved in the attack.
