Philippine national police: PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered a comprehensive investigation into a shooting incident in Cavite province that resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including a police officer.

According to Philippines News Agency, the shooting took place at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday at a resort in Maragondon town. Another police officer was injured in the incident, while the suspect, also a police officer, was apprehended and is currently under the custody of local authorities.

Nartatez described the circumstances surrounding the incident as still under investigation. He emphasized that police officers are expected to maintain discipline, restraint, and sound judgment at all times, regardless of their duty status. He assured that the PNP would not prejudge the case but would not tolerate any violations of the law or PNP regulations. The investigation will follow the evidence and respect due process, with appropriate actions taken based on the findings.

Initial police reports indicated that all four individuals involved were "under the influence of liquor" and were preparing to leave the resort in Barangay San Miguel A when the incident occurred. The suspect has been identified as a 35-year-old police corporal from the Trece Martires City police. The victims included a civilian and a police staff sergeant from the Magallanes police and another police corporal from the Ternate police.

Cavite Provincial Police Office public information chief Lt. Sarah Jane Drio confirmed that the civilian and the police staff sergeant were pronounced dead at the hospital. Firearms recovered from the scene included a Glock 17 9mm pistol with a magazine from the suspect and a Beretta 9mm pistol with a magazine from one of the victims.

Cavite police chief Col. Ariel Red revealed that the Maragondon chief of police has been relieved from his post and placed under the Cavite Police Personnel Holding and Accounting Section, pending the ongoing investigation. He assured that the incident is being taken seriously and the investigation will be conducted thoroughly, objectively, and in accordance with existing laws, rules, and regulations.
