PNP Prepares Security for Duterte’s 80th Birthday Prayer Rally

Davao City: The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday announced its ongoing efforts to finalize security arrangements for a prayer rally organized to commemorate the 80th birthday of former president Rodrigo Duterte on March 28.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo stated that the Police Regional Office in Region 11 (Davao) is closely working with the Davao City local government to ensure safety at the event, which will take place at the Rotary Plaza New Corella in Davao del Norte province. The coordination efforts aim to handle the expected large turnout, given Duterte's ties to the region.

Fajardo shared during a virtual press briefing that the authorities have been informed about the planned prayer rally and anticipate significant participation due to Duterte's local roots. The Davao City public safety office is tasked with providing the final estimate of attendees, which will aid the PNP in devising comprehensive security plans.

Ensuring the safety of participants is a priority for the PNP as they develop the necessary security measures. Meanwhile, Duterte remains detained in The Hague, Netherlands, where he is facing charges of crimes against humanity at the International Tribunal Court (ICC). These charges are related to the deaths linked to his controversial war on illegal drugs during his tenure as Davao City mayor and as president.
