Manila:The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reiterated its dedication to lawful enforcement and proper arrest procedures, countering social media claims advocating for extreme actions against Senator Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa.
According to Philippines News Agency, PNP spokesperson Allen Rae Co addressed the issue during a press briefing at Camp Crame. He clarified that a circulating photo of Dela Rosa, purportedly taken during Undas, was actually an old image and did not depict a recent public appearance by the senator.
Co emphasized that the PNP is investigating the online dissemination of the photo to determine whether it was intentionally used to mislead the public. He warned that individuals attempting to deceive or obstruct public channels, such as the PNP hotline, could face criminal charges.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. highlighted the importance of adhering to legal processes in police operations, regardless of the individuals involved. He stated that the PNP does not support a "shoot-to-kill" approach and that law enforcement must be conducted with due process, human rights respect, and rule of law compliance.
This statement follows Cagayan de Oro 1st District Rep. Lordan Suan's denial of social media claims falsely attributing to him a call for a "shoot-to-kill" order against Dela Rosa. Suan called the statements fabricated and clarified he never made such remarks.
Dela Rosa is subject to an arrest warrant related to crimes against humanity charges before the International Criminal Court, with a surrender deadline that expired on October 30. Nartatez underscored that public demands for accountability should not compromise legal safeguards, advocating for professional and impartial law enforcement.
Nartatez instructed police units to continue intelligence efforts to locate Dela Rosa and execute the warrant in line with legal procedures. He reiterated the mandate against excessive force and urged personnel to exercise restraint and respect human rights during operations.
