Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday expressed its support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s appeal, urging motorists to exhibit more discipline, patience, and responsibility on the roads. This call comes in light of recent violent altercations captured on video and shared widely on social media.
According to Philippine News Agency, Marbil, speaking on behalf of the PNP, emphasized the importance of maintaining composure and discipline while driving. He highlighted that a driver's license is a privilege accompanied by responsibilities, not a right. Marbil underscored that road rage poses a significant threat to public safety and assured that the police force would not tolerate actions that endanger others due to uncontrolled anger.
Marbil encouraged the public to take a proactive stance in de-escalating tense situations on the road. Instead of recording incidents for social media, citizens should focus on pacifying conflicts and promptly reporting them to authorities.
President Marcos, in a recent vlog, criticized the rising culture of aggression and violence on the roads, which has led to physical confrontations and, in some instances, fatalities. He expressed concern over the increasing boldness among motorists, urging them to exercise restraint and consider the broader welfare.
Marbil affirmed that the PNP would continue to intensify traffic enforcement operations and collaborate with local government units and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to promote road safety awareness and discipline. He stressed that it is everyone's responsibility to practice moderation and respect for fellow road users, particularly in moments of anger.
In his concluding remarks, Marbil urged all motorists to remember the potentially irreversible harm that even a moment of rage can cause. He called for collective efforts to ensure that roads remain safe and free from violence.
